Jerry Reese has made his fourth selection of the 2017 NFL Draft. Wayne Gallman is the newest member of the New York Giants.

The New York Giants entered the 2017 NFL Draft with a need for improvement at running back. General manager Jerry Reese readily acknowledged that reality on Day 3, when he selected the newest member of Big Blue.

With the 140th overall selection in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Giants welcomed Wayne Gallman to New York.

Gallman is a running back who played three seasons for the Clemson Tigers.

Gallman appeared in 42 games for the Tigers, including two National Championship Game appearances. During that time, he amassed 3,416 rushing yards and 34 rushing touchdowns, as well as 66 receptions for 486 yards and two scores.

With the Giants, Gallman will have an opportunity to compete for playing time alongside Paul Perkins, Shane Vereen, and Shaun Draughn.

As a dynamic playmaker who can excel in a number of different roles, his versatility as a playmaker fits what Reese has been targeting in 2017.

New York has gone against the grain during the 2017 NFL Draft, albeit at positions of need. It selected tight end Evan Engram in the first round, drafted defensive tackle Dalvin Thompson in Round 2, and chose quarterback Davis Webb in Round 3.

All three picks displayed a sense of urgency that ranged from an attempt to win now to an acknowledgement of a closing window.

By drafting Gallman in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the Giants have continued that commitment to excellence. The move displays a desire to improve the consistency and continuity of the running game.

Although expectations may be limited for a fourth-round draft pick, New York will need every member of the team to pull their weight in 2017.
