The Boring Bye Week

Nothing is worse than the bye week in the NFL. Obviously it is beneficial to teams who have injuries and for players to get a little breather at some point in the season, but from a fan’s stand point, it is the worst part of the NFL season.

Just when the season gets going and the Giants pump out three wins in a row, here comes the bye week to disrupt their momentum and cause for an uneventful weekend. Not only are the Giants off, but so are the Colts and the Patriots, two team that are shaping up to be very important story lines in 2008 and this time it isn’t because they are both 8-0.

We are now in Day 4 of 13 days of no Giants football and the only thing that has happened is that Plaxico Burress decided to skip practice and not tell anyone. Plaxico didn’t practice at all season and if he did attend practice it was to stand there and hang out and I had no problem with this considering his job is to run and catch balls, and as long as he is in shape, I am pretty sure he can do his job. But when you get a $35 million deal, a deal that you have been looking for since the Super Bowl, I am confident you can afford a cell phone to let the Giants know you won’t be at the team function on Monday.

So now the Giants are looking to return to East Rutherford for a game against the awful Seahawks, who have been posting ads on Craigslist for wide receivers, without their own top receiver. Now Plaxico is a big part of the offense, but in no way is this loss as big as if say Eli Manning had been suspended or Justin Tuck, but it definitely hurts and the offense will not be near the same without Plaxico. However this is Seattle and these are the Giants and there is no way the G-Men should lose this game. Seattle is a bad football team and the Giants need to put them away with or without Plaxico.

But anyways, the bye week is pretty boring any which way you look at it. Maybe it is because the Yankees are eliminated from the playoffs that the two week layoff for the Giants seems like it was last forever, either way it is devastating.
