One more to go before they start to count
Having the unfortunate circumstance of living in Philadelphia, I did not get to see the Giants-Jets game on Saturday night. Not a single snap. That is the second biggest downfall of living in Philly (the other, obviously, being all the Eagles fans around) because following games on the computer is pure torture, despite the fact that you don’t have to listen to Joe Buck make a mockery of color commentating.
Once the regular season starts, though, I won’t have to worry about that ’cause I get NFL Sunday Ticket (btw, if you have DirecTV order The Ticket. It’s one of the best things about football season. You can watch eight games at once, it keeps fantasy scores for you, it’s the greatest thing ever invented and I can’t imagine living out-of-market without it). But I digress.
As I said before, I was unable to see the game but the box score looked promising. Hakeem Nicks had six catches for 144 yards and two scores; Danny Ware had decent rushing numbers and solid return yardage; and the rushing game looked like it had a good day. The important thing I noticed was the emergence of Nicks. The G-Men won’t be able to do a thing without a No.1 receiver, and Nicks appears to be making a name for himself. After not getting many reps the first two games and the first half Saturday, it seems he came out of his shell a little bit. I don’t know if his big night came because of the Jets weak defense or that he’s coming into his own, but I’m happy with his performance. I just wish Barden had more than one grab.
That being said, the Giants should make a move for an established go-to receiver. Perhaps Brandon Marshall? Maybe if he gets the sand out of his vadge. He makes Jay Cutler look like a classy guy who handles adversity well. Plus if Marshall keeps being a biatch about his situation, the Giants could get him at a discount. But realistically, either way the G-Men need another Plax-esque receiver.
Eli, on the other hand, appeared to play like trash. 9-for-21? Outplayed by that rapist (just kidding) Mark Sanchez and David Carr? Come on Eli, you’re better than that. Also, one sack for the defense? That’s just not going to cut it. The D better step it up too.
The Giants better figure out a way to win games and have a legit deeep threat, because on September 13 the games begin to count.
