G-Men prevail

The Giants beat the Chiefs Sunday 27-16. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad they won but they kind of let up at the end. Those two KC TDs were cheap as hell.

Eli looked good: 20/34; 292 yards; 3 scores and a pick. That injury, though, looked bad; there was no one around him. He just stepped awkwardly. He  says he expects to play and it feels fine, and that it was no worse on Monday than when he sustained it on Sunday. So that’s a good sign, but the MRI results might beg to differ. Get well soon, Eli.

The running game was legit, Jacobs gaining 92 yards and Bradshaw 64. Even though they didn’t penetrate the goal line, they still ran at will. However, Jacobs, referring to his lack of production, said that he’d retire if he doesn’t start playing well. He was quoted on “The Brandon Tierney Show” as saying:

“If I finish the season averaging (3.4 yards) a carry, I won’t play next year. I’ll be done. That’s how much I believe in my ability.”

That’s great. I know (pray on my mother’s life) he was just kidding, but come on. The last thing this team needs is another star running back retiring in his prime. Keep your mouth shut and do your job.

The receiving corps continues to impress. (The real) Steve Smith put up 134 and two TDs on 11 grabs, and has emerged as a serious deep threat. That Nicks TD was impressive and all parties of the passing game seem to be on the same page.

The defense was great, too, with the five sacks and all those fumbles. That late goal-line stand was great, 6 plays for -6 yards. But the TD kind of spoiled it. It’s a shame they let up those late points, the G-Men were lucky to cover the -9. If the Chiefs make that two-point conversion it’s a push.

Random thoughts from the game:

  • Manning had a ton of time in the pocket
  • Manningham was bobbling balls a little early on. Though his incomplete pass call that they challenged in the second quarter was BS.
  • They did win big, but there was some sloppy play in there. If they’re not playing the Chiefs do they still win? I was happy with the win, but am nervous for that tough stretch of games coming up.
  • I hate to keep sounding like Negative Nancy, especially after a win, but Big Blue almost $hit the bed against a winless team. That stuff might fly next week against the Raiders, but after that they better get their act together.
