8:05 pm | Whatever happened to CB Corey Webster wasn’t enough to keep him from stretching with his teammates at the end of practice. The Giants ended a physical day with a team meeting on the practice field. |
7:58 pm | CB Corey Webster appeared to be limping slightly while walking off the field. CB Aaron Ross replaced him with the first-team defense in 11-on-11 drills. |
7:41 pm | After flattening CB Courtney Brown with a block, WR Nyan Boateng became entangled in a shoving match with his counterpart. Boateng burned Brown on a crossing route on the following play, and the two exchanged words before the end of the drill. |
7:38 pm | Once again, LB Jonathan Goff is the first-team middle linebacker while LB Keith Bulluck is playing with the second-team defense. Bulluck has been practicing just once a day. |
7:27 pm | K Lawrence Tynes made 6-of-8 with his longest coming from 47 yards away. He missed left from 30 and 33 yards, but there was a low snap on the 33-yard try. |
7:14 pm | The Giants displayed their four defensive end alignment again, but this time DE Osi Umenyiora and DE Justin Tuck played off the line. |
7:04 pm | WR Ramses Barden received an ovation from the crowd for wrestling a ball from CB Aaron Ross as the two were tumbling to the ground. WR Mario Manningham followed with an impressive catch while being hit by CB Bruce Johnson. |
6:42 pm | Unofficially, P Matt Dodge’s longest punt went 65 yards, but his best was a 57-yard bomb that hung in the air for 4.77 seconds. The rookie averaged 51.7 yards over his 16 attempts but had one errant kick go just 36 yards. |
6:21 pm | TE Travis Beckum (hamstring), TE Kevin Boss (hamstring, ankle), OG Rich Seubert (hand), WR Sinorice Moss (groin) and WR Steve Smith (groin) are not practicing. |
11:32 am | RB Brandon Jacobs said he wasn’t healthy last season. “I couldn’t play. I wasn’t explosive,” he said. “I just simply had a bad season.” He’s been doing new hip stretches and other exercises because “I don’t need any strength. … I need my body to be durable.” |
11:27 am | RB Brandon Jacobs wore a T-shirt Monday that read, “Free 17,” which is a reference to incarcerated former teammate Plaxico Burress. Jacobs said he spoke to Burress “once a week before camp started.” |
10:59 am | Coach Tom Coughlin said WR Sinorice Moss is struggling with a sore groin, and S Kenny Phillips (knee) won’t participate in the evening practice. Coughlin did go on to say that Phillips has plenty of time to compete for a starting position. |
10:57 am | TE Kevin Boss has been dealing with an ankle injury, but that’s not his only problem. “I don’t know if he’ll make it this afternoon,” coach Tom Coughlin said. “I think it’s more hamstring now.” |
10:55 am | After suffering through a shoulder injury last year, FB Madison Hedgecock is looking healthier. “I see a different Madison Hedgecock already,” coach Tom Coughlin said. “We didn’t see as many people moved out of the hole (last year) as we were accustomed to.” |
10:48 am | Coach Tom Coughlin said he only wanted S Kenny Phillips doing two plays per drill Monday. When asked about Phillips’ being available for the first preseason game, Coughlin said, “I would say right now, no.” |
10:19 am | A shoving match erupted moments ago, and while it’s difficult to say who started it, OG Chris Snee had to be pulled away by his offensive teammates as he tried to get back into the fray. |
10:18 am | WR Mario Manningham has not looked sharp in morning drills. He has two drops on passes from QB Eli Manning. |
10:08 am | LT Will Beatty apparently has an injury. After a recent 11-on-11 play, he removed his helmet before getting up slowly and walking off the field under his own power. It looks as if Beatty was poked in the eye. |
10:03 am | Despite a myriad of injuries at the position, there is a bright spot at tight end: Bear Pascoe. The second-year player has made impressive grabs over and underneath the coverage. |
9:34 am | DE Dave Tollefson is working with the second team and playing the same DE/LB role that Mathias Kiwanuka played with the first team. |
9:31 am | DE Mathias Kiwanuka is being used at both strongside and weakside linebacker. With DT Chris Canty‘s ability to play end, it’s essentially a five-man defensive line. |
9:16 am | After missing time with a hamstring injury, TE Travis Beckum is catching passes Monday. Even though he’s in his second year, Beckum has shown enough confidence to direct the “younger” receivers on some of the finer points of the Giants offense. |
8:59 am | TE Kevin Boss (ankle), LB Keith Bulluck (knee), OG Kevin Boothe (pectoral), WR Sinorice Moss, OG Rich Seubert (hand) and S Deon Grant (groin) are not practicing. It is unclear what the issue is with Moss. |
8:38 am | S Kenny Phillips (knee), C Shaun O’Hara (ankle) and TE Travis Beckum (hamstring) are practicing while WR Steve Smith (groin) and WR Hakeem Nicks (knee, toe) sit out the morning practice. |
