QB Injuries Open Door For Giant Wildcat Offense

Have you ever wanted to see the Giants try out the newest offensive craze that has been sweeping the NFL for a few years now – the Wildcat offense?

Well, due to the fact that Eli Manning and Jim Sorgi both need to sit out this weekend… offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride recently told the Giants media wing that Safety Antrel Rolle would have some opportunities this weekend to show what he can do at QB now that the Giants are basically playing with all backup quarterbacks. This might actually be a blessing on many levels – the Giants being forced out of their comfort zone as it were.I for one never thought the Giants would run a Wildcat scheme under the uber-conservative supervision of Coughlin and Gilbride, so I’m excited at the prospect of seeing exactly how versatile the Giants prized free agent safety Rolle really is.

Gilbride said about the limited QB situation:

"I can’t remember going into a game with only one. Technically we’ll have two, with Dominic (Randolph) with us now. We also have Antrel limbered up for a few plays, so we’ll see what he can do."

Rhett Bomar will of course start and play the majority of the game.  Dominic Randolph formerly of Holy Cross was signed yesterday as a last resort. But the most interesting prospect without question is the new Giants safety Anrel Rolle taking snaps at QB. He played quarterback in high school and threw the ball some in college as well — he claims he can throw it 70+ yards with accuracy.  Gilbride said over the spring “we’ll have to see” about Rolles claims… now we all actually have that chance Saturday night when the Giants host the Steelers.
