Backup QB Jim Sorgi is going to sit out for the rest of the preseason with multiple injuries to his throwing arm and shoulder.
Ralph Vacchiano of The Blue Screen has the report:
"Jim Sorgi, the Giants’ backup quarterback, will miss the rest of the preseason shoulder injury that could’ve been worse. Much worse.Sorgi was told this morning that he suffered a torn capsule and a partial dislocation of his right throwing shoulder, according to a source informed of the results of the MRI he had this morning. That’s not great news, but it’s better news than it could have been since Sorgi was already playing with a partially torn labrum in his shoulder.According to the source, this new injury is unrelated to that tear. If it had been, the Giants almost certainly would have insisted he have surgery, which probably would’ve ended his season, if not his Giants career.Sorgi, though, is still expected to be out 2-3 weeks which means he’ll miss the Giants’ last three preseason games and it pushes his expected return dangerous close to the start of the regular season on Sept. 12.Sorgi suffered the injury late in the Giants’ 31-16 win over the Jets, when he absorbed a big hit from Jets linebacker Lance Laury just as he connected with Victor Cruz for a second touchdown pass. The severity of the torn capsule wasn’t immediately known, but sometimes the injury can require surgery. It’s worth noting that Dolphins quarterback Chad Pennington tore his shoulder capsule last September and ended up missing the rest of the season. One source family with Sorgi’s injury said the Giants don’t believe his tear is nearly as severe.Regardless, even a temporary injury puts the Giants in a bit of a bind, because with Eli Manning temporarily out with a three-inch cut on his forehead, the Giants have only second-year pro Rhett Bomar and rookie Dominic Randolph on their roster. Randolph just signed with the Giants late last night, leaving Bomar as the only Giants quarterback with any experience at all."
