QB Eli Manning will practice in a baseball hat today and expects to play Saturday while wearing a modified helmet. “We’ll get a little plan,” Manning said. “We haven’t put a helmet on yet. We’re kind of planning to put the helmet on Wednesday.”
OG Rich Seubert expects to play Saturday, which means OL David Diehl can switch from guard back to left tackle. “I definitely want to go back to my position (where) I feel more comfortable,” Diehl said. “I know the assignments. It’s just getting back in my technique.”
OL Shawn Andrews on the Philadelphia media: “Some of the guys that I developed friendships and good relationships with in the media in Philly, it’s like, ‘Shawn is a G-Man now, so let’s ride the wave of he didn’t want to play football. He stole money.’ ”
OL Shawn Andrews doesn’t agree with his perception of the Philly media’s take. “How did I steal money from the Eagles organization?” he said. “It’s not like I held a gun to their head and said, ‘Hey, keep me here.’ You know? I had a back injury. I went through depression.”
OL Shawn Andrews is working at left guard and left tackle. That means second-year LT Will Beatty will have to beat out the former Eagle and OG Rich Seubert if he hopes to start and push OL David Diehl to left guard.
RB Brandon Jacobs (neck) will go full speed in Monday’s practice. “I can turn it in every direction it goes in,” Jacobs said. “It’s fine. It’s right on track to be where it needs to be.”
QB Jim Sorgi (shoulder) is present but not in pads Monday. S Sha’reff Rashad and D.J. Ware are getting tests on their concussions, and WR Ramses Barden (back) and S Michael Johnson (back) are not on the practice field.
CB Aaron Ross is not practicing because of plantar fasciiatis.
LB Keith Bulluck has primarily played in the middle, but he just took a few snaps with the first-team defense at outside linebacker as LB Clint Sintim stepped aside.
Maybe QB Eli Manning should play without a helmet. He completed impressive throws to TE Kevin Boss, WR Tim Brown and WR Hakeem Nicks while wearing a baseball hat over his lacerated forehead.
For the first time since the start of training camp, LT David Diehl, LG Rich Seubert , C Shaun O’Hara, RG Chris Snee and RT Kareem McKenzie have practiced together as a unit.
The Giants have shown their “Nascar” package along the defensive line again with DE Justin Tuck and DE Mathias Kiwanuka playing on the outside while DE Dave Tollefson moves inside to defensive tackle. DE Osi Umenyiora was playing just off the line between Tollefson and Kiwanuka.
CB Terrell Thomas appeared to be limping slightly earlier, but he has returned to practice. The same cannot be said for TE Travis Beckum, who is standing on the sidelines after pulling up in a drill.
Coach Tom Coughlin expects QB Eli Manning (forehead laceration) to play Saturday assuming everything goes as planned. Most of the starters expect to play at least one half against the Ravens.
Coach Tom Coughlin said that TE Travis Beckum did not aggravate his hamstring. Rather he did something to his neck. It is unclear if he will miss any time.
Coach Tom Coughlin said that WR Ramses Barden’s back issue is a “pain thing,” and if Barden can manage the discomfort, he has a chance to return in a week. The same cannot be said for S Michael Johnson, whose back continues to be an issue.
Coach Tom Coughlin would not say if OL Shawn Andrews will play this week. “The progress is a couple of snaps per drill as we go along,” Coughlin said. “We’ll see where that takes us.”
Coach Tom Coughlin may have been acting coy when he was asked about DE Mathias Kiwanuka taking snaps with the linebackers. “Was he?” Coughlin asked. “He was working on his drops.”
LB Keith Bulluck played at inside and outside linebacker, but coach Tom Coughlin said it was only because he wanted to familiarize the veteran with the different positions. Coughlin said it has nothing to do with LB Clint Sintim’s performance.
Coach Tom Coughlin is reserving judgment on CB Aaron Ross’ plantar fasciitis. “It’s a big swollen heel,” Coughlin said. “He was complaining about the tape job (during Saturday’s game). That was about the only thing I knew about it.” It flared up the following day.
