Thursday Practice Reports

Injury Bullet Points:

  • Giants not practicing Thursday morning: CB Terrell Thomas (groin), QB Jim Sorgi (shoulder), LB Chase Blackburn (knee), OG Kevin Boothe (pectoral), WR Sinorice Moss, RB D.J. Ware (concussion), DT Jay Alford (knee), WR Ramses Barden (back) and CB Aaron Ross (plantar fasciitis).
  • DE Jason Pierre-Paul (groin) and DT Chris Canty (groin) are practicing after sitting out Wednesday. TE Travis Beckum (neck) is not in pads.
  1. LB Keith Bulluck is seeing time on the strong side with the first-team defense. He worked exclusively at middle linebacker during training camp after spending nearly all of his career on the outside.
  2. OG Rich Seubert took snaps at center Thursday in the place of C Shaun O’Hara (ankle), who did not practice. OG Guy Whimper lined up to Seubert’s left.
  3. WR Mario Manningham has not looked great while returning punts at Thursday’s practice. In addition to fumbling one punt, he misjudged another before making a difficult catch.
  4. C Shaun O’Hara (ankle tendonitis) won’t play Saturday. “They’re going to try to resolve this so they can put a cast on him,” coach Tom Coughlin said. “They’re going to hold him for three or four days to see if they can get things straightened out.”
  5. In C Shaun O’Hara’s place, OG Rich Seubert will start at center against the Ravens with C Adam Koets coming off the bench. “I feel comfortable playing center,” Seubert said. “I’ve been here a long time. I’m pretty sure I know who we’re blocking.”
  6. Coach Tom Coughlin said he hasn’t heard anyone suggest that C Shaun O’Hara will require ankle surgery. Rather, the coach expects the injury will be something O’Hara has to deal with over the course of the season.
  7. After pushing himself in practice earlier in the week, DT Jay Alford rested his surgically repaired knee Thursday. “They just wanted to sit me down just to rest it,” Alford said. He still expects to play Saturday.
  8. DT Chris Canty (groin) isn’t sure if he’ll play Saturday. “It’s totally up to the coach and the training staff,” he said. “I feel pretty good.” Had this been a regular season game, I’m pretty sure we’d go about it a little different.”
  9. Coach Tom Coughlin has been impressed with LB Jonathan Goff. “He’s done a good job,” Coughlin said. “He’s communicated well. He’s directed traffic out there. He’s physical. He’s made good progress.” Goff is the favorite to win the middle linebacker job.
  10. Coach Tom Coughlin does not expect CB Terrell Thomas (calf) to play Saturday against Baltimore.
  11. WR Ramses Barden (back) is staying off his feet. “Honestly, I haven’t tried (to run),” he said. “They told me, ‘Don’t worry about running right now.’ We’ll find other ways of getting endurance and cardiovascular (exercises). I ran in the pool. I swam in the pool.”
  12. WR Ramses Barden (back) is still waiting to get a timetable for his return. “Every day is an improvement,” he said. “It’s not in a crazy amount of pain when I wake up. The pain has become pretty manageable.”
  13. C Shaun O’Hara  (ankle tendinitis) says he will probably have his cast on less than five days, but doesn’t expect to return this preseason. “I could probably run faster than (OG Rich Seubert) even with my cast on,” O’Hara said. “I doubt they’d let me. Certainly not this week.”
