Good News Giants… Panthers Offense 0-42 In Preseason

Hey Giants fans, the preseason could look worse.  The Carolina Panthers, who debut their 2010 season at New Meadowlands Stadium in a couple weeks have yet to score an offensive touchdown after 3 weeks of preseason exhibition games.

To make matters worse for Carolina, they will be going up against a bitter Giants team with something to prove to their owners, coaches, fans, and foes… that last years embarrassing collapse and end was indeed a fluke. Whatever else happens this preseason, the Giants will be just itching to respond to the  beating they took the last time the two teams met… the last home game ever in the Old Meadowlands.

Report via Charlotte Observer.com:

"After listening to the Carolina Panthers talk about their offense in the aftermath of Saturday night’s exhibition, I heard a lot of words that sounded semi-truthful and one word that was exactly right. The Panthers beat Tennessee 15-7 Saturday on the strength of a gorgeous 91-yard kickoff return for a touchdown from Mike Goodson and a defense that has been utterly spectacular for three games in a row.Carolina’s offense, as usual, had little to say. That offense has produced exactly zero TDs in three exhibitions. It has had 14 possessions in each of those games, which means it rests in an 0-for-42 TD slump. That’s more than bad. That’s awful."

Gregg Rosenthal of PFT says:

"DeAngelo Williams was running on Saturday night behind the first team offensive line, and he only put up 13 yards on nine carries.  Matt Moore hasn’t looked awful, but he’s missed a few key throws.  The personnel around him looks overmatched.Sure, Jonathan Stewart and Steve Smith haven’t been out there.  But that points out Carolina’s weakness: Their skill position depth ranks among the worst in football. The Panthers threaten to have a very good defense this year and could make a surprise run to the playoffs.  They will probably need to score some offensive touchdowns to do that."
