This is just something I noticed this morning, and after reading several stories about how the Giants got away with a win yesterday, how it was ugly, etc… I saw a photo that just rubbed me the wrong way on top of all of it.
I mean, the Giants won yesterday right? Eli Manning had an efficient day, threw for 2 TDs, didn’t throw an interceptions or turn the ball over. And Detroit only sacked him twice, it’s not like they were all over him all day. So why is this picture of him getting nearly killed on the homepage of NFL.com? Just a cool photo? Perhaps.
But consider that it’s not indicative of where Eli Manning was yesterday, it’s not indicative of the Giants performance yesterday, and it’s certainly not indicative of any sort of trend or pattern present in the game played yesterday or the last several games for that matter.
The Giants won, and yet the visual communication here is quite contrary. If it’s not indicative of a larger context, why is it on the homepage of the league’s website? Why is Eli Manning there and not Pierre Garcon who made one of the most amazing catches all year against the Redskins last night? (seen here)
Why not Tony Romo hanging his head after a 1-4 start? Or why not Brett Farve getting sacked who had a much worse outing than Eli statistically, and who got sacked twice as much?
Why is it Eli and the Giants, who again won yesterday and are 4-2 heading to Dallas next week tied for the lead in the division, why are they the featured photo getting pummeled?
Do you see a trend here? If it’s to create discussion, great lets have it.
