Draft Week: Top OL Candidates

6 of 8

Tyron Smith

OT, USC

Tyron Smith is a second year player out of USC that has a ton of potential, particularly at Right or maybe even Left Tackle.  On some big boards, he’s the number one rated tackle because of his size and speed, he’s almost freakishly athletic.  But where he excels with measurables after starting 2 years with the Trojans, his immeasurables don’t quite make him the total package.  Questionable instincts, awareness, and intelligence are noted on his report.   He’s a bit smaller than some of the other top OL prospects, and is not quite as dominant or powerful as some would like. He’ll be a project player for a team willing to wait on his development, but of course Tyron Smith in the end has huge potential upside.

Measurables: 6-5, 307, 40 time: 4.91

Key Words: very athletic, length, quick, nimble, balance, agile, fluid movement, explosive, lots of upside

Excels At: lateral movement, getting to the second level of the defense, getting physical/toughness, ability to finish

Needs To Work On: awareness, protecting blind side, power, leverage at point of attack, needs more experience, speed off the ball
