While League and Players Exchange Statements, Lockout Looms
By author
According to multiple sources, there has been an exchange of public statements released by the NFL and the NFLPA today.
Here’s the gist.
Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Drew Brees said this:
"“We believe the overall proposal made by the players is fair for both sides and it is time to get this deal done. This is the time of year we as players turn our attention to the game on the field. We hope the owners feel the same way.”"
NFL spokesman Greg Aiello responded with this:
"“We share the view that now is the time to reach an agreement so we can all get back to football and a full 2011 season. We are working hard with the players’ negotiating team every day to complete an agreement as soon as possible.”"
Good. Glad that’s all settled then.
Meanwhile, the Lockout is still on and negotiations have never been more under the gun as we approach the end of the week. If a handshake deal isn’t in place by tomorrow or Friday, hitting the July 21 goal/deadline is all but shot. And at that point, so are the preseason games.
