Victor Cruz VS. Santonio Holmes: Money Talks Edition

facebooktwitterreddit

After watching Santonio Holmes pout on the sidelines all by his lonesome during the Jets’ season ending loss against the Dolphins on Sunday I couldn’t help to think how happy I was, especially as a Giants fan, to not have that type of player on the Giants. There’s no room for that in football. What is even more awesome is that the Giants have the complete opposite type of player in Victor Cruz.

And you know what’s even better than having Victor Cruz over Santonio Holmes on your team? It’s having Victor Cruz at Victor Cruz’s salary. Take a look at the breakdown and you’ll see why the Giants are in pretty good hands with Cruz over Holmes… Well, at least until Cruz signs a new contract… But for now we’re all good…

Santonio Holmes: 5-year contract worth $45 million, with a $6.245 million signing bonus. His deal ends in 2015, making him an unrestricted free agent in 2016.

Victor Cruz: 3-year contract worth $1.215 million, with no signing bonus. His deal ends in 2012, making him a restricted free agent in 2013.

More snooping around found that Holmes’ 2012 salary is fully guaranteed at $7.75 million! Plus, if Holmes is still a member of the Jets’ roster two days into the 2012 league year he will also be guaranteed $7.5 million of his 2013 salary!  Compare that to Cruz’s 2012 salary of $490,000 and that’s a very happy Jerry Reese.

Most of the above contract information was taken from Rotoworld.com and Spotrac.com, who according to their site is, “the largest online sports player contract system on the internet.”
