New York Giants Free Agency Update: March Madness Edition

facebooktwitterreddit

With March Madness upon us, the allure of NFL free agency may be lost once Peyton Manning signs with either the Broncos or Titans.

Regardless, there are still important moves to be made that could impact whether the Giants are able to defend their Super Bowl title against the likes of the rest of the NFL.

As of March 16th, the Giants have made some minor, but important moves:

  • Domenik Hixon re-signed
  • Steve Weatherford franchised
  • Jake Ballard re-signed
  • Brandon Jacobs cut
  • Justin Tryon re-signed
  • Terrell Thomas re-signed (4 years)
  • Michael Coe re-signed
  • Martellus Bennett signed
  • David Carr re-signed

These are the same moves that Jerry Reese makes each year. He knows which free agents need to be re-signed and which need to be let go. His big signing thus far was that of Martellus Bennett, former Dallas Cowboy, who will serve as the Giants primary tight-end with both Travis Beckum and Jake Ballard expected to start the season on the PUP list.

The free agency period is still young, so expect Reese to bring in a few more veterans to round out the rest of the corps. After that, you can expect Reese to focus the rest of his energy on the April draft.
