ESPN E:60 Examines NY Giants Coach Tom Coughlin

ESPN’s award-winning newsmagazine program E:60 examines the metamorphosis of New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin in the episode airing Tuesday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Winless and at the bottom of the NFC East, with the franchise’s worst start since 1976, is not where Coughlin imagined he would be after half-a-dozen games. But what might be even more surprising is that no one in the “what-have-you-done-for-me-lately” New York sports universe is calling for Coughlin’s head.  His players defend him, fans still respect him and the often-brutal New York media has cut Coughlin some slack.

It was different seven years ago when fans and media lost patience with Coughlin, his stiff-necked persona, and the mediocre results. That is when Coughlin was forced to change his ways. Two Super Bowl rings later and he has what few coaches have managed to establish in New York – the credibility and likeability to get him through hard times.

E:60’s Jeremy Schaap sits down with Coughlin’s family, current Giants Eli Manning, Victor Cruz and Justin Tuck, former Giant Michael Strahan, Syracuse basketball coach Jim Boeheim and Hall-of-Famer Floyd Little to uncover the kinder, gentler coach and man who has won over New York.

The feature airs one night after the Giants meet the Minnesota Vikings on ESPN’s Monday Night Football on Monday, Oct. 21.
