Flashback: 4 plays that haunted the Giants season
By Adam Ganeles
Play #1 | Week 1 at Dallas — The David Wilson fumble
The festivities got underway in apropos fashion, with Eli Manning tossing an intended screen pass directly into the arms of DeMarcus Ware on the season’s opening play. After the defense held the Cowboys to a Dan Bailey field goal from their own 15, a 57-yard pass to Hakeem Nicks quickly set the Giants up in scoring position. First and goal from the eight-yard line: David Wilson’s first opportunity to validate all the preseason hype with a dashing gallop into the endzone — instead, he ran directly into the shoulder of his fullback, was stripped by Barry Church, and coughed up the rock. Wilson added another fumble in the third quarter, which Church (again) promptly returned for a touchdown. Tone set.
