NFL free agency won’t officially begin until 4 PM EST on March 11th (Tuesday), but the three-day negotiating window — also known as “legal tampering” — is now underway. In essence, player agents can meet with teams and negotiate dollar figures. They cannot, however, meet with players or finalize deals.
The Giants have taken this opportunity to re-sign RFA linebacker Mark Herzlich. A backup LB and special teamer, Herzlich recorded 23 tackles in 194 defensive snaps a year ago. Ten of those tackles came on special teams, where he earned a PFF grade of 3.5. He’ll provide quality depth and familiarity with the defensive system.
Herzlich joined the Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2011. He was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma in 2009, a rare form of bone cancer, but returned to the football field for Boston College in 2010.
