According to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, the Giants apparently have “some level of interest” in 29-year old free agent Brandon Pettigrew. My initial reaction to this report is… WHY? Would this really be a wise outlet to spend valuable funds?
Brandon Pettigrew Past Two Seasons
Pettigrew is an adequate pass blocker (3.6), but at 6’6 265 he’s somehow a liability in the run game. He’s essentially become a “catch and fall” receiver, with his explosiveness after the catch all but gone. He’s found difficulty achieving separation from linebackers and safeties despite the space afforded playing alongside Calvin Johnson. He doesn’t possess great ball skills — not a red zone threat — and has a track record for stone hands in the clutch.
So where’s the intrigue? The Giants would be well served to address tight end in the draft, or at least sign younger legs with upside i.e. Andrew Quarless.
