Giants sign edge rusher O’Brien Schofield
One of the first moves the Giants made as soon as NFL free agency officially opened was a two year deal for OLB/DE O’Brien Schofield of the Seattle Seahawks:
Oct 17, 2013; Phoenix, AZ, USA; Seattle Seahawks linebacker O
The Wisconsin product played his first three years in Arizona, amassing 10.5 sacks and 54 tackles. Last season he had only 1 sack for the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks. At 6’2, 240 lbs. the athletic hybrid linebacker mostly played as a situational rusher and split his time between defensive end and outside linebacker with the Seahawks.
The Giants will most likely utilize Schofield as an explosive edge rusher. It still seems like a bit of an odd fit as Schofield probably projects better in a 3-4 defensive scheme, but the Giants obviously saw something on tape from his play last year that piqued their interest.
GMEN fans, what are your thoughts on this interesting signing by the Giants?
