The Giants officially welcomed two 2014 draft picks to the Big Blue family on Friday afternoon. They inked 4th round RB Andre Williams and 5th round SS Nat Berhe to four-year (mandatory) rookie contracts — minimum base salary of $420,000 + prorated signing bonus. Remember, teams have the option to exercise a fifth year on 1st rounders only.
Depending on the health and on-field performance of David Wilson, the downhill running Williams could grasp opportunities to impress early and often. Berhe, an undersized safety/slot corner, will likely be forced to prove his mettle on special teams.
Remaining drafted rookies to be signed: Odell Beckham Jr. (round 1), Weston Richburg (round 2), Jay Bromley (round 3), Devon Kennard (round 5) and Bennett Jackson (round 6).
Beckham Jr.’s negotiation will of course be the most contentious. According to rookie salary projections by Forbes, Mr. Beckham will earn a total salary of $10,406,198. For comparison’s sake, number one overall selection Jadeveon Clowney is projected to make $22,272,998.
And to think rookie salaries have become more team friendly.
