Ex-New York Giants’ cornerback Terrell Thomas reportedly has a tryout with the New England Patriots, according to Howard Balzer.
The veteran missed the entire 2011 and 2012 seasons with torn ACL’s, and his production clearly suffered because of it. After totaling 10 interceptions in 2009 and 2010, he snagged just one in 2013. That one interception went with 67 tackles, one sack and one forced fumble.
Quite frankly, it was his worst output since his rookie season. After three years of getting minimal output from him, the Giants decided not to resign Thomas this offseason.
Now, the Patriots have decided to take a low-risk high-reward move by giving him a tryout.
The Patriots already signed Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner this offseason, so they are not looking for top end talent here, but they could always use depth after what happened with Aqib Talib last season.
The Patriots could be getting a steal here depending on if they signed the 2009 version of Thomas, or the 2013 version. More than likely, at 29 years of age, his athleticism resembles the latter.
