4. Spencer Paysinger: Also added in 2011, Paysinger is a former Oregon Duck that joined up as an undrafted free agent. Initially brought on as a depth addition, he has proven his worth by staying on the roster and fluctuating as a starter here and there. Last season he took snaps at MIKE when the original starter, Dan Connor, went down with a season-ending injury. Though he did not make a major difference as Beason did emotionally, Paysinger was one of the most energetic and high motor players on the defense. Sure, he may not make a major impact in comparison to other more talented defenders, but what cannot be questioned is his work ethic. He truly leaves it all on the field.
Will Spencer make a difference this year? It remains to be seen. But seeing the energy he displayed last year while adding another year under his belt, there is hope for another leap forward. He has an upper hand, like Herzlich, in terms of consistency within the same system.
