Colin Kaepernick (San Francisco 49ers) Round 8 ADP

Kaepernick has just as much upside as Brady or Newton, yet he’s being drafted one round later on average. People don’t seem to be keeping up with the times.

Not only did Kaepernick finish his first season as a full-time starter as fantasy’s number nine quarterback in 2013, but he did so without Michael Crabtree for most of the year. In 2014, he’ll be going to work with Crabtree at full strength, along with a supporting cast of Anquan Boldin, Stevie Johnson and the always elite TE Vernon Davis.

With San Francisco paying Colin Kaepernick a hefty contract and quietly suggesting they’ll open things up even more in the passing game this year, it’s only natural to start thinking of all the possibilities. Kaepernick is still developing as a pocket passer, but after putting up 21 touchdowns to just eight picks a year ago, it’s clear there is potential for him to rise even higher.

Add in his rushing ability and he has a very good shot at chasing down a top-five spot. Even though it’s no lock, and there is certainly risk involved, an eight round pick for Kaepernick is an insane steal. That slotting essentially projects him as fantasy’s 11th best passing option.
