2014 Hall of Fame Game
For seven months and five days Giants Nation has stoically endured the pain that is life without NFL football. This evening, when “I Hate Myself for Loving You” trumpets out of your television set, you’ll know the reward has been consummated. Who am I kidding? The biggest present of them all won’t arrive until 8:30 PM on September the eighth… but until then, the preseason will sufficiently curb your football appetite.
Tonight, the Giants will meet the Buffalo Bills on the Fawcett Stadium gridiron in the league’s annual Hall of Fame Game. The last time Big Blue participated in the Hall of Fame Game was way back when on August 5th, 2002, a time when Jesse Palmer was acting as the team’s starting quarterback. What’s more? Soon-to-be Giants lightning rod Jeremy Shockey made his fateful debut that night, catching four passes for 80 yards and a score. In other words, quite a bit of historical ground has been covered over these 12 years…

It’s been 23 years since the Giants and Bills squared off in the preseason — August 5th 1991 to be exact — when the Giants emerged victorious 23-17. However, the two squads have crossed paths six times during the regular season since 1991. They’ve split the difference at 3-3, the last matchup a 27-24 W for the G-Men at MetLife Stadium in 2011.
Michael Strahan versus Andre Reed set the stage at last night’s Hall of Fame Enshrinement (not quite, but we’ll milk it). Now it’s time to resume the Super Bowl XXV rivalry between the lines. Are you ready for some Hall of Fame football? A Sunday night party, perhaps?
