Rand Getlin of Yahoo NFL Insiders broke the news this morning that the Giants were going to place wide receivers Mario Manningham and Trindon Holliday on injured reserve:

Manningham, who was trying to make this his second stint with the GMEN, just never looked right coming off multiple knee surgeries. I saw him in person at practice a few times and it was pretty evident he has lost a lot of his speed that made him so dangerous. Manningham will always be a Giants’ fan favorite due to his spectacular sideline catch that helped the Giants beat the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI.

Trindon Holliday, the diminutive return specialist was injured at an early Giants practice, one I was actually at, and was never able to get going after that. The GMEN brought Holliday in to finally stabilize their return game, but it looks like once again they will be entering the season with major question marks at the punt return position.

Both Holliday and Manningham are expected to reach injury settlements with the Giants and could end up playing for another team this year. I wish them both the best of luck, and am truly sorry neither worked out for the Giants this season.
