Giants release former Super Bowl hero Mario Manningham

According to multiple reports, the New York Giants have released former Super Bowl XLVI hero Mario Manningham from injured reserve with an injury settlement. This will give Manningham an opportunity to play for another team this year if he so desires, and if anybody is willing to have him.

I have always been a big fan of Manningham’s, but ever since he tore his ACL and MCL in 2012 when he was with the San Francisco 49ers, he just has not looked like the same player. During my first visit to Giants training camp this summer, I tweeted the following about Manningham:
“Manningham hasn’t gotten many reps, mainly with the third team, but his explosion is clearly not there like it used to be #nyg”

Hopefully for Manningham’s sake he can get back from this latest hurdle and find his way back into the NFL, just not for a Giants rival. Super Mario will forever hold a special place in the hearts Giants’ fans for this incredible catch:
