After scoring just 28 points in the first two games and being full of all-lose, the NY Giants are now on a streak filled with WIN.
A 3 game win streak, in which they’ve scored 105 points to their opponents to 51:
Even Odell Beckham Jr. and his “storied” bad hamstring made an impact against the Atlanta Falcons yesterday. The young rookie recorded his first TD and accumulated 44 actual NFL yards as the G-Men defeated the Falcons yesterday afternoon.
Earlier in the season, it was looking pretty bleak for Eli Manning, OC Ben McAdoo, HC Tom Coughlin — and really — the entire giants organization. The offensive line was playing terrible, the defense was feeding off the bad play of the offense and overall, the team just wasn’t ready to compete at an NFL level. Especially with their new West Coast Offense without their shiny new first round pick, OBJ.
Now things are a little different, a TE came out of the woodwork to look NFL dominant in Larry Donnell, and even with the injury to Rashad Jennings. Andre Williams got in the game and showed he could score, the four letter’s Dan Graziano even wrote a column about him being selected to speak at the podium in this piece titled, Andre Williams gives Giants big boost:
"This time around, Williams was one of three Giants players chosen to take questions from the media at the podium (as opposed to in front of his locker), along with quarterback Eli Manningand wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. Not bad for a fourth-round draft pick, barely a month into his first NFL season. Williams had gotten carries in each of the Giants’ first four games, serving as a complement to starter Rashad Jennings. But when Jennings suffered a knee injury early in the third quarter of the Giants’ 30-20 win over the Falcons, Williams became the Giants’ primary option, and he proved up to the task. He finished with 20 carries for 65 yards — only 3.3 yards per carry, but that includes a bruising three-yard TD run in which he flattened Falcons linebacker Paul Worrilow on his way to the end zone. “It felt great,” Williams said. “I really just wanted to pick up for Rashad when I could, and in this game it ended up being more of the second half, and I’m just praying that his recovery is quick.” Williams also caught both passes thrown his way, for 18 yards. And, perhaps most importantly of all, the rookie didn’t put the ball on the ground. “He is a tough, hard-nosed runner,” Giants coach Tom Coughlin said. “That is why he is here. That was his reputation and that is what his evaluation was. “He did what he did the week before. He dropped his shoulder and ran through someone to get in the end zone. He is a hard-running ball carrier who can get himself low to the ground and has outstanding leg strength. He seemed to do OK in pass protection [too].”"
That seems like some strong praise from the Giants HC, but Andre Williams has played well at times giving some hope for the position in the future.
For the present, the NY Giants are 3-2, buoyantly behind two NFC East 4-1 teams that they will play in the next two consecutive weeks: Philadelphia and Dallas. Now, what-at one point seemed like a lousy throwaway season, could be an intense midseason race to first place in the East.
With the NY Giants firmly in control of their own destiny. And — on Prime Time Sunday Night Football this week, those Iggles will be first in line to stand in their way to break the streak.
