Look before I get slammed for putting Pierre-Paul’s name up here let me acknowledge the fact that yes he is having a decent season even though his sack numbers are lacking. Yes, he plays hard and has a lot of heart and yes he is a freak of nature physically. But he is a free agent after this season and he will undoubtedly be looking for a huge payday.

In order for the Giants to consider him being worthy of being of the highest paid defensive ends in football, he had to have had much more production than he has shown so far this season. JPP has been talking way too much to the media with dumb guarantees that make him and the team look bad. He also is clearly not the elite pass rusher he was in his rookie year in 2011 before suffering a multitude of injuries with the most severe being a back injury that required surgery.

He had an awful 2012, and played decent in 2013 playing well against the run, but much like this year his sack numbers are certainly not worthy of a huge contract. JPP is still a solid player and should be a Giant at the right price. The likelihood is that he will be looking for big money and it wouldn’t be smart for the Giants to dedicate so much cap room to a player they know will never live up to that contract.

The Giants are better off letting someone else overpay for him and use that money to fill some of the many holes this current Giants team has.
