Iron Man: Eli Manning

The similarities between Eli Manning and Iron Man are uncanny. Both are flawed tough guys who falter but somehow persevere, seemingly impervious to the most brutal pain and injuries.  Iron Man’s mythical survival of a severe chest injury conjures memories of Eli Manning’s woozy rise from the ground against San Francisco in the 2011 NFC championship game, grass and sod firmly implanted on his helmet and facemask.  There was also the Plantar Fasciitis. The shoulder injury.  The ankle surgery. No matter– Manning has started 167 consecutive games at Quarterback for the Giants, the 3rd longest streak in NFL history. Whatever his flaws, no one can deny that Eli is Iron Man.
