6. Danny Shelton, DT (Washington)
Danny Shelton is the big bad wolf of this NFL Draft Class. He’ll push and he’ll push and he’ll blow back your center and bust up play after play. In 2014 he had 16.5 tackles for a loss and 9 sacks.
These are numbers that would satisfy you from a defensive end, but from a defensive tackle, they are absolutely incredible. Shelton is a player who makes the entire defense better because of his dominance at the line of scrimmage.
The Miami Dolphins just unloaded a wheelbarrow full of money and dumped it by the feet of defensive tackle, Ndamukong Suh. Shelton can provide the same impact as Suh (maybe an even greater impact) and you can pay him according to the rookie wage scale for 4 seasons. The Giants wanted Suh, they just couldn’t afford him. If the Giants draft Shelton, it is a much more cost-effective answer at the defensive tackle position.
Shelton is an imposing 6-2 339 pound man. He is the biggest and strongest player in this draft class. He will make the entire defense better. Offensive linemen are taught to block inside-out because the inside man has the quickest route to the quarterback. If they have to double team Shelton, which they will be forced to do often, it opens up many possibilities for other players.
