2015 NFL Draft Profile: CB Kevin Johnson, WF

What if I told you there was a Marcus Peters like cornerback in this draft that you could get in the 2nd round without the baggage that Peters brings? You would probably want the New York Giants to draft that player right? Well his name is Kevin Johnson and he is from Wake Forest.

The 6-0 188 lbs. is a little undersized but he has all the physical attributes and skills that you want in a cornerback. He is aggressive but not a foolish risk taker. He is fast, and he can jump with the best receivers of the NFL. The Giants absolutely have to have Johnson on their radar.

GMENHQ Big Board 2.0 Ranking: 43rd Overall Prospect

Strengths:

More from NY Giants Draft

  • Good recovery speed
  • Aggressive, good in tight man to man coverage
  • Natural athlete
  • Fast (ran a 4.52 40 yard dash at NFL Combine)
  • Great vertical ability (41.5 yard vertical jump at NFL Combine)
  • Good technique
  • Surprisingly decent tackler

Concerns:

  • Undersized
  • Pass interference problems

Overall, Johnson has 1st round ability in a 2nd round frame. From an athletic standpoint, it doesn’t get much better than Johnson at the cornerback position. It may take Johnson some time to develop to the rigors of professional football but he can be a starting cornerback in the NFL.

The Giants have more pressing needs than cornerback but this is a possible use for the Giants 41st overall pick. Johnson would be a good value pick and he can play over the slot as a nickel cornerback. It is very possible that he would be the best player on the board in the second round.
