5. Garrett Grayson, Colorado State

The former Colorado State product, Garrett Grayson got a chance to play in the 2015 Senior Bowl after having a highly successful senior season for his Rams. Noted for his deep ball touch, Grayson has a very strong arm. Grayson is a pure pocket passer, boosting solid footwork in the pocket. Maybe his greatest attribute, Grayson is an exceedingly tough kid who is not afraid to sit in the pocket and take a hit.

Grayson is a very talented passer and has much to offer NFL teams. Nonetheless, there is a reason why Grayson is ranked number five on my list. As would be expected, not all is perfect with his game. Frankly, Grayson has very little if any ability to move in the pocket. Not to be blunt, but Grayson is a statue at times.

As strong as Grayson’s arm might be, Grayson doesn’t bring a whole lot of accuracy to the plate and at times can miss even the easiest of throws. A long, somewhat robotic throwing delivery/release will not help Grayson’s chances of going high in the draft.

All in all I would describe Grayson as a ‘quarterback project pick.’ I believe Grayson is the type of prospect that will need time to grow, mature, and further better his ability in hopes of  becoming a starting option at the NFL level. Ideally, Grayson will be drafted by a team with a franchise quarterback already in place. This way Grayson can sit on the bench for a few seasons and hopefully improve on some of his shortcomings.

Grayson has raw talent that simply cannot be taught. I must admit, I am not all that high on Grayson due to his poor throwing accuracy, but do not be mistaken, there is a ton of promise here. If Grayson can find a way to significantly improve on his throwing accuracy, release time, and pocket movement he will be solid NFL quarterback. A probable fifth-round pick, I could see Grayson’s draft stock rising come draft day simply due to supply and demand.
