1. Jameis Winston, Florida State

A flat out winner. A complete NFL prospect with a chance to be a ‘more athletic Ben Roethlisberger.’ That is who Jameis Winston is. Winston has excelled from both inside and outside the pocket. From a very young age (now 21) Winston showed an ability to play and succeed in an NFL style system while at Florida State.

It may be cliche to say, but Winston can make all the throws needed to succeed. Deep, short, or in between Winston has it covered. Unlike his counterpart in Mariota, Winston is already much more than a one read quarterback.

Winston’s most impressive attributes may just be his advanced ability to look through progressions and find the open receiver. In many of the same ways Roethlisberger has made famous, Winston is exceptional at prolonging the play and making ‘something out of nothing.’

Some may point to Winston’s off the field issues as a reason why Winston should not go number one overall. To be honest, I could not disagree more. First off, I’m not going to get into the serious allegations put forth against Winston. According the court system such allegations were false, hence I’ll assume such to be true.

Putting such allegations to the side, he is not guilty of anything more than being a young and naive kid. I refuse to belittle, depreciate, or disparage a 21 year glorified kid for making juvenile mistakes. I think anyone who doesn’t understand that a (then 20 year old) kid is going to make mistakes is naive in their own right.

Let’s be honest, Winston is still very young as he’s going to learn a whole lot once he hits the NFL. I truly think he will change for the better. Although Mariota is a blue chip prospect in his own right, the difference between Mariota and Winston is clear.

Bluntly put, Mariota is not a sure thing. As touched on above, Mariota is an immensely talented prospect but also one who will need time to mature at the NFL level. Worse case scenario Mariota could have a very hard time transitioning into a franchise quarterback. I don’t believe this to be the case with Winston.

Winston is the closest thing to being a truly amazing quarterback and its about time people realize it. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers must draft Winston at number one overall. Once they do, sit back and watch the show that is Jameis Winston.
