4. Carl Davis, DT (Iowa)

Carl Davis is the poor man’s Danny Shelton in this draft class. He doesn’t have the explosion and quickness that makes Shelton a top 10 talent. What he does have is incredible size and strength that makes him quite the handful at the line of scrimmage.

Davis is a run stuffing defensive tackle who could be the anchor of a 3-4 defense. He is an old school nose guard. He is the immovable object who will dominate and demand double teams.

A player like Davis is the linebackers’ best friend. He will not only take up space up front, he will take up blockers. This will allow linebackers to be the headhunters they so need to be on the football field.

Davis is not a first round player, but he will be a solid starter. I was a former high school football nose guard and Davis is the player I always wished I could have been. Nobody cares about the battle in the trenches, but this is where Davis will make a huge impact.
