3. Laken Tomlinson, OG (Duke)
Let’s be honest if I say guard from Duke, you’re thinking about basketball. That being said I’m talking about Duke’s resurgent football program and their offensive guard, Laken Tomlinson. The reason you haven’t heard of Tomlinson (unless you pay close attention to either college football or the draft) is that he does a good job. Chances are if the commentator says an offensive linemen’s name, he screwed up.
Tomlinson is a big and powerful blocker. He is a dominant pass protector and he has a high football IQ and has the physical attributes to be a dominant guard in the NFL. The casual fan may not know of Tomlinson, but everyone who knows the draft knows that Tomlinson is good.
Tomlinson will be a reliable starting guard in the NFL for a long time to come. Tomlinson is the third ranked offensive guard on my big board. The 6-3, 323 pound player is as physically imposing as they come on the football field.
This Duke star should surely be on your radar. He would be a good second round draft pick for the Giants.
Next: 2. Mario Alford, WR (West Virginia)
