39. Ali Marpet, OG (Hobart)

The most athletic guard in this draft class is from the smallest football program imaginable. Marpet is from Hobart, no that isn’t a typo. You probably remember hearing the name, because at the NFL Combine Marpet ran the fastest 40 yard dash, for any offensive lineman.

Marpet is the perfect guard for the zone blocking scheme. He is a quick footed guard that can reach any block. He has the power to drive defenders back 5-10 yards on every rushing play and the swift mobility to get out to the second level of the defense. If you put him in an offense like the Seattle Seahawks or the Denver Broncos where the zone blocking scheme is alive and well he could be a dominant player.

You simply cannot hold the level of competition against Marpet. He exploded on to the draft scene at the NFL Combine and he isn’t going away. In the second round, I really like Marpet. I think many decision makers are going to regret passing up on this player because of his circumstance.

I think this may be a player the Giants target in the second round. Reese is never shy about taking a chance on a small school player.
