33. T.J. Clemmings, OT (Pitt)

Clemmings has the potential to be the best offensive tackle in this draft class. The reason I give him a second round grade is because he is a raw player with little experience as a left tackle. Clemmings will have to start his NFL career on the right side, as he trains to become a dominant left tackle.

Clemmings originally played defensive line, before Pitt moved him to be a right tackle. It isn’t hard to see why the made the change. Clemmings has the physical tool set to be the picture perfect tackle. Clemmings has almost an identical physique than that of Humphries. He is 6-5 and weighs 309 pounds.

Clemmings has a very high ceiling but a low floor. He is one of the riskier tackle picks to make, that’s why I put him as a high second round prospect. He reminds me a lot of Michael Oher. Oher had great physical ability but it didn’t come naturally to him. As a result Oher got beat off the edge, thinking with his feet running out of gas. I think Clemmings will be better than Oher.

Still it is hard to argue with the reservation of taking a somewhat inexperienced offensive tackle. Clemmings could be great, he certainly has the potential but it isn’t a sure thing.
