The Chargers will play Scherff as an offensive guard. He will improve their run blocking which will help bring balance back to the offense. As a guard his solid pass protection skills will help protect Rivers from interior pass rush.
This is a really smart trade by the Chargers. They swap picks with the Dolphins and send a 4th round pick to the Dolphins. As the general manager of each team in this mock, a trade must be fair. I think that I succeeded for both teams in this trade.

Brandon Scherff
Offensive Guard, Iowa
The San Diego Chargers traded with the Miami Dolphins to secure the services of Brandon Scherff. Scherff was almost certainly going to be drafted before the 17th spot. Unable to trade for their next franchise quarterback, the Chargers trade for their next Pro Bowl Guard.
The Chargers need help on the offensive line. All the Chargers had to do was win their regular season finale against the Kansas City Chiefs. They couldn’t protect Phillip Rivers, and they struggled to run the football and they missed the postseason because of it. Enter Scherff who is the best run blocker in this draft.
