New York Giants Draft Grade: B

The Giants drafted a good player that was worth the number nine selection. It certainly isn’t a bad pick by any standards. The Giants offensive line is dramatically improved by the addition of Ereck Flowers. Flowers will start the season at right tackle. He will go through some growing pains but we’ll see his dominance in run blocking right away.

The reason the Giants don’t get an A is simple. The Giants had more pressing needs on the defensive side of the football. With the ninth overall pick the Giants had an opportunity to draft a game changer on defense. That’s what the Giants needed the most. Danny Shelton would have been the absolute best pick.

Its like with a multiple choice test. There may be two answers that are kind of correct, but which one is the best answer because that’s what the teacher is looking for. The Giants were right to address the offensive line but they would have been better suited addressing the defense. This is a solid pick that will make a big impact so it is hard to hate on the pick.
