2015 NFL Draft: Giants Should Target David Cobb

The third day of the 2015 NFL Draft is upon us and David Cobb remains one of the best value picks remaining. The New York Giants should target Cobb in the 5th round.

Cobb is an outstanding running back from the Minnesota Golden Gophers. He has a low center of gravity that helps him maintain his balance after contact. His naturally low pad level makes him hard to tackle in the first place.

Cobb is one of the most underrated rushers in this draft class. I viewed him as somebody with a 2nd round to early 3rd round grade, but in all likelihood he will be there in the 5th round. Cobb reminds me of a Ray Rice type rusher and he will provide in the passing game as well.

Cobb put up some really impressive numbers at Minnesota. In the 2014 season, he rushed for 1,626 yards and had 13 touchdowns. As a receiver out of the backfield he caught 16 passes for 162 yards. Cobb will grind out the tough yards in between the tackles. It is almost hard for defenders to see the 5-10 229 pound running back behind the offensive linemen.

While the running back position isn’t the biggest need for the Giants, I think Cobb could be more productive than the injury prone Rashad Jennings. A final trio of Shane Vereen, David Cobb and Andre Williams would be the perfect answer at the running back position.

Cobb is an underrated player who could put up big time production in the NFL. Amongst the highly coveted Big 10 running backs, Cobb was the forgotten man. This is a good football player that the Giants should extend a chance to.
