4.Denver Broncos Trade Up To Draft Shane Ray

John Elway must have saw something special in the very troubled player. Ray was a top 10 prospect until his marijuana incident. I think the Broncos realized it wasn’t as big of a deal as most teams probably made it.

Elway must have seen the value in Ray’s drop and capitalized on it. This has to easily be one of the biggest steals in the entire draft.

This was a very smart move on the Broncos’ part. They have one hell of a defensive pass rush now. Ray, Demarcus Ware, and Von Miller will be sure to cause some havoc for quarterbacks.

The Trade:

The Broncos ship off the 28th overall pick, a fifth round pick (143), a 2016 fifth round pick, and guard Manny Ramirez.

The Broncos received the 23rd overall pick and drafted Ray.

Upgrading the defense was a priority for the Broncos clearly. Ray will provide that element of speed the Broncos defense lacks. Ray’s speed rush will work out very well in Denver matched up with Ware’s power and Miller’s explosiveness.
