3. San Diego Chargers Trade To Draft RB Melvin Gordon

For this pick at least, all the rumors were actually true. The San Diego Chargers moved up in the draft in order to take running back Melvin Gordon. Many mock drafst had the Chargers taking Gordon, but not from a trade. This was a huge move on the part of the Chargers.

The Chargers desperately need a running back to make sure they remain a contender. The AFC West is only getting tougher as the days go on. The Chargers and Philip Rivers marriage only has a certain amount of time left together.

The Oakland Raiders are up and coming. The Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs are always in good standing as well. After losing Ryan Matthews to free agency, the Chargers were left with no choice but to draft a new playmaker in order to keep up with their rivals.

The Trade:

The Chargers shipped off the 17th overall pick, a fourth round pick (117) and a 2016 fifth round pick to the 49ers.

The Chargers received the 15th overall pick and drafted Gordon.

The Chargers now have a dynamic one-two running back punch on the field. They have the very impressive Brandon Oliver and the rookie Gordon to take snaps. Gordon will provide an immediate impact on the Chargers offense, so San Diego fans can take a deep breath.
