14. Mike Evans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Mike Evans emerged in his first year as the big target in Tampa. Evans quickly replaced Vincent Jackson as the lead guy. Vincent Jackson was more of the number two guy down the stretch and especially in the red zone. Vincent Jackson had 7 touchdowns in 2013. In 2014 he had just 2.

Jackson’s targets also went down from 160 to 142. Vincent Jackson is still a good player and will help Evans again in his second year. Evans had 12 touchdowns as a rookie. Evans had 68 catches and 1,051 yards. Evans numbers are even more impressive when you realize that he played the whole season with the Bucs switching quarterbacks.

Evans is 6’5″ and has the ability to out jump a lot of defenders. He also has the ability to out power a lot of guys with stiff arms. The Buccaneers drafted Jameis Winston to be their new quarterback. If Winston is successful in  his first year Evans will be a large reason for that. Winston may go through some growing pains but he has some weapons to deal with that. Evans should only improve in his second year in the system. Evans saw 122 targets but caught 68 passes. I think if his targets remain in the hundreds his catches will increase as well. Keep in mind that Evans played 15 games not 16 so his numbers would be even better if he played in that extra game.
