What Do The Stats Say?

Romo has thrown for 33,270 yards in his 11 year NFL career. In four different seasons Romo has amassed over 4,000 yards which is one of the most impressive accomplishments a quarterback can accomplish. Romo has thrown 242 touchdowns and has thrown 110 interceptions. It is important to remember that Romo became a starter in his third season in the NFL.

Manning has thrown for 39,755 yards since he took over for Kurt Warner in his rookie season of 2004. Manning has had four seasons in which he threw for over 4,000 yards.  He has thrown 259 touchdowns but an unfortunate 185 interceptions. Manning has had 3 seasons in which he has thrown 20 or more interceptions; in 2013 he had 27 passes picked off.

The stats can make several different arguments depending on how you interpret them. You could argue that Romo has thrown 75 less interceptions and therefore is the better passer. That being said, Romo has no leg to stand on with that argument as he is arguably the last of the great quarterbacks you’d want with the game on the line. The truth is that the numbers are very similar for both players. They have the same weakness, which is the inability to take care of the football.

The numbers are also hard to compare because the difference in number of games the two have played respectively. That is a boost to Romo, he has comparable numbers with less starts. In the Romo era the Cowboys have gone 75-48. In the Manning era the Giants have gone 91-76. The stats don’t really separate either quarterback.
