3. Jessie Armstead
The final year of Lawrence Taylor’s career also happened to be the 1st-year of Jessie Armstead‘s. As an 8th-round draft choice, in no way did anyone expect him to become the next great Giants linebacker, yet he did just that.
Armstead was a member of the 2000 New York Giants team that won the NFC Championship, while also being selected to 5 Pro Bowls, and 4 All-Pro selections. He was a part of another great era of Giants defensive football.
Armstead maybe doesn’t get the attention he deserves because he didn’t lead a championship squad. Unlike, Taylor or Strahan, Armstead never raised the Lombardi trophy so his popularity doesn’t exactly rank where those two do in Giants history. At the end of the day, he’s a member of the Giants Ring of Honor and one of the better defensive players in franchise history.
