1934, featured the first-ever championship game victory for the New York Giants over the Chicago Bears. This game became infamously known as the “Sneakers Game,” which occurred on December 9th.

What gave this game a name was the brilliance on the part of head coach, Steve Owen. At the time of the game the turf at the Polo Grounds had become frozen. Owen, decided to send someone over to Manhattan College to retrieve basketball shoes for the entire team.

The traction in basketball shoes proved to give New York a clear advantage in the rough Polo Grounds terrain, which led to a 30-13 victory for Big Blue. This became one of the more memorable games in NFL history and one of the more memorable years in team history.
