The Giants always find a way to make it interesting, don’t they? After what seemed like a joy ride through the first 14 games of the season, they happened to see their former Super Bowl MVP quarterback Phil Simms go down with a season-ending injury.
What happened next? Well, a once in a lifetime-type performance by their backup quarterback, Jeff Hostetler. Ironically, Hostetler replaced Simms in a game against the Buffalo Bills who he’d eventually help defeat just a few weeks later in Super Bowl XXV.
Defense was the trademark of this football team as was coaching. Bill Parcels, Bill Belichick, Tom Coughlin and many other big-name coaches graced the sideline for New York. All of which were crucial in taking down both San Francisco and Buffalo in back-to-back games in both the NFC title game and the Super Bowl.
