Super Bowl XLII

Nobody could have imagined a more unbelievably amazing journey than the Giants took to be crowned Super Bowl Champions in the 2007 season. The Giants would earn a wild card seed with their 10-6 record and they magically caught fire for their playoff run. They would face their tallest test in the Super Bowl, defeating the undefeated New England Patriots.

This of course was a rematch of their week 17 battle. The Giants had nothing to gain by playing their starters, with a playoff seed already locked up. Tom Coughlin decided to play his starters and they went for the Patriots with everything they had in them. The Patriots narrowly escaped with a 17-14 lead but this meeting gave the Giants the blue print and the confidence for beating them weeks later in the Super Bowl.

The Super Bowl was an incredible roller coaster of emotions for the Giants faithful. The first half of the game was a brutal clash between two great teams. The Patriots had a 7-3 advantage at half time but a team that was seldom even tested, received a year’s worth of frustration. The Giants won this game by fighting, by never giving up and by believing that they belonged in the Super Bowl spotlight just as much as the Patriots. David Tyree saved the game winning drive, pinning the football against his helmet answering the prayer thrown up by Manning. Manning would go on to hit Plaxico Burress for the game winning touchdown.

The Giants won the most unbelievable Super Bowl in the most unbelievable way. It was the last game of the great Michael Strahan’s career. The Giants legendary defensive walked out into the sunset after a Super Bowl win. Manning was the Super Bowl MVP as his poise in the biggest moments of the game was simply remarkable. What a moment in Giants history this was.
