Super Bowl XLVI 2011

The 2011 Super Bowl run was just as magical as the previous run. The last game of the regular season was the de facto NFC East championship game between the Giants and the Dallas Cowboys. With a 9-7 record the Giants were able to earn the division title and go on to the Super Bowl.

Sometimes the path to the Super Bowl is just as memorable as the big game. The Giants dominated Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons in the first round of the playoffs 24-2. Then the Giants knocked off the reigning champion Green Bay Packers 37-20. The Packers were the heavy favorites with home field advantage which they earned with their 15-1 record. The Giants defeated Jim Harbaugh’s San Fransisco 49ers in overtime of the NFC Championship game. It was one of the best games I have ever seen.

Then in the Super Bowl, it just had to be a rematch with the New England Patriots. The Giants won the big game 21-17. With a different cast of characters the game plan stayed incredibly similar to the 2007 showdown. The Giants dominated defensively at the line of scrimmage, frustrating Brady. Manning made big time clutch plays and once again led a game winning drive against the Patriots.

The Patriots led at halftime 10-9 (Yes, in all four Super Bowl victories the Giants trailed at halftime. I guess that’s your trivia tid-bit for the day). Things looked bleak after the Patriots went up 17-9 in the third quarter. The Giants would however score the rest of the Super Bowl’s points to win the game 21-17. The 2011 season was an incredible journey with many ups and downs but it ended gloriously.
